Have Your Say! Bay of Plenty Civil Defence Emergency Management Group Plan 

Submissions are open from Saturday, 8 July until 5pm on 13 August 2023.

Civil Defence Emergency Management (CDEM) Groups are required by law to produce a Group Plan. The current Plan is for 2018-2023 and the new one (2023-2028) is scheduled to be released before the end of this year.

Kawerau District Council is aware of the ongoing issues with discoloured water that have escalated in recent months. There has been more service requests lodged and residents have also been advising elected members and staff via other forums.

Council apologises for these ongoing issues and the impacts on whānau. We appreciate that it is frustrating and impacts residents’ lives.

Swarm of earthquakes unsettle Kawerau rohe

 The swarm of earthquakes in the region has been felt strongly in Kawerau from the early hours of the morning.

Kawerau District Mayor Faylene Tunui said “Residents are reporting that they have been awoken in the early hours of the morning due to the shakes.”

“Our first concern is of course the safety of our people and community. Having  a plan is important for each household. In the first instance drop, cover and hold to avoid injury.”
