Collections and Research

Collections

The Museum holds a wide range of resources relating to the history of Kawerau. Resources include local historical newspapers and newsletters, as well as photographs and ephemera. We have begun the process of digitising this material but currently this can only be accessed by contacting Museum staff.

Donations

The Museum collects items directly relating to Kawerau District's cultural, social and cultural heritage. Attached is documentation explaing our donation processes and a provenance form which can be prefilled before donating items to the Museum.

Learning and Research

The Museum collection can only be accessed by appointment with staff. To make an appointment, please contact us so staff  can prepare material for your visit.  The initial two hours of research time is free of charge, after which fees apply. Attached is a pdf of information around requesting Museum material, including fees and charges plus the forms needed to make an information request and/or a reproduction (photos) request. Please contact Museum staff if you need assistance with these forms. Please be aware the bulk of our collection is still under copyright restrictions meaning requested material cannot always be supplied depending on the nature of the request. Also, under Traffic Light Red and Orange, visits will need to follow Covid-19 protocols.

Kete Kawerau

Kete Kawerau was a website which collected the stories and images of Kawerau. The Museum had placed a small selection of our material on this site for customer viewing but this was closed by the National Library 30 June 2022. Staff are currently investigating new online options.
