Dog Impounding

On average, the Council impounds approximately 250 dogs per year. Most dogs are impounded due to owners' failure to keep their dogs contained or controlled.

To maintain public safety, dog control officers respond to many callouts concerning roaming and uncontrolled dogs. This may result in the dog being impounded.

All dogs must be registered and microchipped before they can be released from the pound.

For health and safety reasons, the pound is not open to the public. For microchipping, viewing dogs for adoption, and collecting impounded dogs please contact the Council.

All microchipping and impound fees must be paid at the Council Office on Islington Street and dog owners must then produce their receipt at the pound in order to collect the dog or have the dog implanted with a microchip.
