Kawerau District Council Archives and Museum Storage Building

This building was completed in August 2017 and houses a temperature controlled storeroom to protect and preserve Kawerau Council District's valuable archives and material from the Sir James Fletcher Kawerau Museum collections. There is an attached workroom for Council and Museum staff to undertake the processes needed to care for this material. Due to the nature of the material held in this facility, this is a staff only building, but requests to access material can be made through Council and Museum staff.

In 2023, the Sir James Fletcher Kawerau Museum collections and the Museum Archives will benefit from a Trust Horizon donation to upgrade the temperature and humidity control systems. This equipment is essential to keep the collections are a stable temperature and minimise moisture to preserve the collections.

The current equipment was also generously funded by Trust Horizon (formerly known as the Eastern Bay Energy Trust) some five years ago, but has now come to the end of its life.

The next step will be to hire experts to develop and install the new system for the Kawerau District Archives and Sir James Fletcher Kawerau Museum Collections.

Council wishes to thank and acknowledge Trust Horizon for their ongoing support for this important project to preserve the history of the district and township.
