Seniors Forum

The Kawerau Seniors Forum is a non-politically-aligned group which provides two-way communication and engagement with older people about Council policies and plans.

A review of Council's Positive Ageing Strategy in 2012 led to the establishment of a Seniors Forum to represent the needs and interests of people in the Community aged 65 and over. This Strategy was reviewed in 2017 and developed into the Age-Friendly and Accessible Kawerau Strategy.

Objectives of the Seniors Forum

Advocate and act as a reference or advisory group in the development of relevant Council policies and plans ensuring that the requirements of our senior and disabled residents are taken into account.

Communicate to senior and disabled citizens in the District details of resources and developments of benefit to this group.

Research and identify issues of concern to aged and disabled people and represent or advocate on their behalf. As with our recent submissions to Council’s Long Term Plan, with agreement that several of our suggestions are to be implemented.

Please let Council or the Seniors Forum know of your concerns within the town that you believe are not age or disability friendly.   The Seniors Forum carry out an on-going survey of footpaths and paving, and will benefit from any advice you can give about areas that you feel need attention.

Meetings

The Kawerau Seniors Forum meets on the second Thursday of every month at the Council Offices in Ranfurly Court, from 2pm to 4pm.
