Council charges its General Rates on a differential basis under the Local Government (Rating) Act 2002.
General Rates are apportioned on a 52:48 differential, which means that the commercial and industrial sector pays 55% of these rates and the residential sector pays 45% (after allowing for the Uniform Annual General Charge). The differential ratio will remain at 52:48 unless Council decides to make changes in the future.
The Rates for 2023-2024 Rating Year, which runs from 1 July 2023 to 30 June 2024 are set in July 2023.
Council has set the following rates for 2023-2024 to fund its operations:

The amounts below relate to the 2023-2024 Rating year (1 July 2023 to 30 June 2024).
General Rate
The General Rate generates the funds necessary to provide many of the Council services and consists of two elements:
- A General Rate charged on the capital value of each rating unit, plus
- A Uniform Annual General Charge.
The General Rate for 2023-2024 is $0.3735 per dollar of capital value for residential rating units and $2.5292 per dollar of capital value for commercial and industrial rating units.
The Uniform Annual General Charge for 2023-2024 is $850.00 per separately occupied or inhabited part of a rating unit.
Under Council's Rate Remission Policy, residential ratepayers will not pay more than $4,900.00 in District rates in 2023-2024.
Water Rate
The Water Rate for most rating units, including all residential rating units, is a separate Uniform Annual Charge of $62.50 This is charged on each separately occupied or inhabited part of a rating unit to which Council supplies water.
Rating units on metered water supply are charged $0.21 per cubic metre of water consumed. The reading and payment dates for 2023-2024 are

Wastewater Rate
The Wastewater Rate is a separate Uniform Annual Charge of $149.50 This is charged on each separately occupied or inhabited part of a rating unit that is connected to Council's wastewater disposal network.
Refuse Collection Rate
The Refuse Collection Rate is a separate Uniform Annual Charge of $238.60 for those residential rating units with a 60/80 litre residual bin and $298.60 for those residential rating units with a 120 litre residual bin. This is charged on each separately occupied or inhabited part of a residential rating unit from which Council is prepared to remove refuse.
