Pandemic impacts Kawerau events

THE impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic have been particularly hard on the events sector.

This weekend the revised event ‘Stacked Kawerau’ has been postponed until November 27 and 28.

The new timeframe was needed to allow exhibitors to set up their works and related to the government announcement of the region moving from COVID-19 Level 2 to Level 1.

This event is being held in the Kawerau Town Hall and is free to the public to attend.

Unfortunately, the move back to Level 2 and Auckland’s move to Level 3 recently meant the cancellation of the Gravity Sports Kawerau 6-Hour Adventure race. Organisers had originally hopeful they could still run the event, but with Auckland staying in Level 3 longer and a large number of schools from there booked to take part – it was too difficult to co-ordinate a new timeline.

In addition, the Prince and Princess training has been postponed for the month of September.

The Weight on My Shoulders event is still postponed at this stage, awaiting a new date.

Other events such as the Kawerau Big 3, WoodFest and the Kawerau Mini Hunt have all been cancelled.
