Media Release – Kawerau District Council extends rates payment dates - 26 August 2021

Rates are due this Friday 27 August, but as our the Kawerau District Council offices are closed, we are extending the payment period until we re-open at Level 2.

We are continuing to encourage people to pay using online banking or via the website. But if people can’t use those methods – we are not going to charge them a penalty as they cannot come into the office.

Once the region drops to Level 2, people will have two weeks to come in to the offices and pay their rates Instalment 1 balance.

Council has agreed to extend the dates primarily as cheques have only just been phased out by all banks, and some ratepayers are not set up for online banking.

We do encourage people to keep up with their rates payments, to ensure that they don’t fall behind which can add stress.

Rates pay for all the services and operations that the district council provides such as rubbish collections, water, roading and footpaths, recreation and parks and reserves to name a few.

The majority of Kawerau ratepayers have already paid this first instalment, as many chose to pay by direct debit or automatic payment.

Kawerau District Council wishes to thank all our ratepayers and remind them that while our doors are closed, we are available by phone and email to assist.

That includes after hours emergencies where our duty supervisors are on call. As usual, anytime night or day people can phone 07 306 9009 for assistance from the Kawerau District Council.
