Kawerau District Council thanks submitters

KAWERAU DISTRICT Council received a total of 80 submissions to the proposed Long Term Plan for 2021-2031. 

Twenty submitters have indicated they will present their submissions to the Mayor and Councillors at the Hearing.

The Council will hold the Hearing on Tuesday, 22 June, where submitters who wish to will talk to their submissions. 

The Hearing is a public meeting and will be live-streamed from 9am when it starts. 

Council wishes to thank Iwi and tangata whenua, stakeholders and residents for their engagement during the consultation period. 

We held a total of 12 consultation meetings with stakeholders including two public meetings and one drop-in session at the Kawerau Markets. There  was a positive response by those who attended and Council wishes to thank people for taking the time to attend the presentations, ask questions and join in the conversation about the future of the district.

The Kawerau District Council Long Term Plan 2021-2031 proposes three consultation topics. 
1.    Replacing 48km of the old drinking water pipes over the next six years. Council will have to borrow $12 million to do this. 
2.    Using sales proceeds from the residential developments to keep the rates increase to 5.1% in year one of the Long Term Plan.
3.    Growing Our District by developing Stoneham Park (the old Soccer Club grounds). 

The bulk of submissions focussed on the three consultation topics but other submission points received covered roading and footpaths, access to walkways and cycleways, health and well-being including water safety, recreation, parks and reserves, solid waste and liquor licencing among other areas.
