Kawerau District Council encourages residents to ‘Have Your Say!’

THE Kawerau District Council has closed consultations on the 2020/21 Annual Plan.

A copy of the 2020/21 Annual Plan Consultation Document was delivered to all Kawerau residents at the end of May.

The COVID-19 pandemic has delayed the Annual Plan process. The month-long submission period is open until 5.00pm on Tuesday, June 30. The Council will hear submissions on 7 July and after deliberations adopt the Annual Plan on 28 July.

The 2020/21 Annual Plan Consultation Document shows residents and ratepayers what the Council is proposing for the upcoming year.

“Residents and ratepayers are invited to ‘Have Your Say!’ on various issues including water supply, wastewater and stormwater, and parks and recreation,” Kawerau District Council Manager Finance and Corporate Services Peter Christophers said.

The consultation document outlines two options for further upgrades to the Maurie Kjar Memorial Swimming Pool Complex and outlines progress of the three residential developments Council is undertaking. These developments will add to the existing housing available in the district with 29 retirement units and a further 35 house and land packages.

As part of the consultation process, the Kawerau District Council will be holding a ‘Consult a Councillor’ session for the 2020/21 Annual Plan at Tarawera Mall next Wednesday, June 24.

The Mayor and Councillors will be available from 10am until 2pm for people to raise ideas and raise issues regarding the upcoming year.

Copies of the Kawerau District Council’s 2020/21 Annual Plan Consultation Document are available from the Council Offices in Ranfurly Court in Kawerau and on the Council website kaweraudc.govt.nz

Submissions are open until 5.00pm on Tuesday, June 30. Submissions can be made online via the Council website, via email submissions@kaweraudc.govt.nz or Facebook or by dropping a submission form to the offices or into the Council drop-box on Islington Street (open weekdays 8am until 5pm).
