Kawerau Town Centre redevelopment

Town Centre Redevelopment underway

Caution Required  - Town Centre Redevelopment underway

Work continues on the Kawerau town centre redevelopment which started on Monday 20 July 2020.

Three of the larger Palm trees were removed and a safety fence has been erected for the duration of the works.

These Palm trees require considerable maintenance to avoid being a safety hazard to pedestrians due to the sharp (and poisonous) needs from the fronds dropping onto the walking areas.

The first area to be worked on will be between the Museum/Library, Appliance Plus, Nadia’s Flowers to the Credit Union and Council Chambers.

A 1.5m corridor will be created along the front of the shops (Nadia’s Flowers to the Credit Union) to allow pedestrians access to the mall and Council Chambers.

Access to the Kawerau District Library will be provided via the grass next to Appliance Plus.

The work is likely to take three weeks to finish.

Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience caused by the works, which includes replacing the footpath surfaces.

More details about the works to come.

Once this work has been completed, the footpath under the veranda along the front of shops would next be completed.
