Kawerau District Council adopts vaccine pass requirements

With COVID-19 variants (Delta and Omicron) now spreading throughout the community in New Zealand, an Extraordinary Meeting was held today by Kawerau District Council.

The reason was to review whether the introduction of vaccine pass requirements were needed for entry by the public to Council Offices, facilities and venues.

After considering a number of options, the Council adopted the following resolution:

•    To Mandate My Vaccine Pass for entry to all indoor, staffed Council venues only. Exclude outdoor facilities
•    An implementation date will be determined as the implementation plan is finalised. The implementation date of Council’s decision will be as soon as practicable.

Council is now working through the best ways to implement this resolution which will mean that vaccine passes are required by the public (aged 12 and over) for entry to the:

•    District Office
•    Kawerau District Library and Sir James Fletcher Museum
•    Maurie Kjar Memorial Swimming Pool Complex
•    Kawerau i-Site and Visitor Information Centre.

Council will outline more information and the implementation date next week after Council staff meet on Tuesday, 1 February 2022.

Kawerau District Council acknowledges that the best method of protection against the COVID-19 virus and any variants is vaccination.

The mandates have been introduced as a method to protect members of the community using the offices, services and facilities and also to protect Council staff.

Council will advise more information after the implementation meeting on Tuesday, 1 February 2022.

NOTE: The Council-owned Porritt Glade Lifestyle Village (an independent retirement village for people aged 60-plus) is already mandated as part of the Government’s retirement village mandates. All staff, contractors and visitors entering the retirement village must adhere to the vaccine pass requirements.
