Awards recognise community contributions

VOLUNTEERS are the lifeblood of the town according to Kawerau Mayor Malcolm Campbell.

Mr Campbell said Kawerau, like many communities, was fortunate to have residents who freely give their time to benefit others.

“Every year this is a special event and this year would be no exception, especially given the many residents and community groups who raised their hands to help others in the district during the COVID-19 response.”

Nominations are now open for the 2020 Kawerau Community Awards.

The annual Kawerau Community Awards recognise significant contributions of individuals and groups.

“Often these people just quietly go about their volunteering and would never seek out public recognition - so it’s up to us to thank them as a community,” Mr Campbell added

The 2020 Kawerau Community Award presentations will be held on Tuesday, 29 September following the Council meeting.

Kawerau residents can be nominated for their contribution in the following areas:

  • Contribution by a young person
  • Voluntary work
  • Community impact
  • Group contribution

In 2019, the Kawerau Community Award recipients were the Kawerau Community Patrol for their group contribution and to Jocelyn Coburn for community impact.

Nominations must be made by two people on the official nomination form, which is available from the Kawerau District Council reception in Ranfurly Court and online via www.kaweraudc.govt.nz

Nomination forms must be received by 5.00pm Friday, 28 August 2020. Nomination forms can be dropped into the Council Offices weekdays between 8am and 5pm or emailed to kaweraudc@kaweraudc.govt.nz

Award recipients will be notified following this and invited to attend the award ceremony.
