House of Shem to be headline act for Kawerau Christmas in the Park

House of Shem to be headline act in Kawerau Christmas in the Park 2019.

House of Shem for KCitP 2019 Organisers are pleased to announce that one of New Zealand’s most successful reggae bands, House Of Shem, will be the headline act at Kawerau Christmas in the Park, Saturday 14 December 2019.
Off the back of a recent NZ tour, with12 shows spanning across both islands, House Of Shem will add to what is already an outstanding line-up for the evening show.

The band seamlessly fuses traditional and contemporary styles to create an authentic blend of reggae, embodying the sounds of Maori, Polynesian, and Spiritual roots in their music. This vibe is at the heart of their new singles ‘Overtime’ and ‘Te Whetu Marama’.

Bursting onto the scene with their debut album KEEP RISING in 2008, House Of Shem rapidly built a loyal fan base, becoming the first reggae band in Aotearoa to debut at number one on the day of release (with their sophomore effort ISLAND VIBRATION).

House Of Shem have earned two Gold album certifications, several Māori music awards and multiple Vodafone New Zealand Music award nominations.  Supporting them are Ria Hall and the Modern Māori Quartet, who collectively, these three acts have a staggering 234,000 Facebook followers.

Additionally Ray Woolf, Freddy Mercury aka Steve Larkins is Mercury Rising and Musical Director Ben Gilgan (leading the Kawerau Christmas Show Band), make for what will be a stellar line-up, all artistically directed by Chris Powley (NZ Promotions Ltd.) and fronted by MC Tamati Coffey.

A spectacular fireworks display will also be another highlight this year. The New Zealand Fire Service have approved the display on the proviso the weather delivers rain prior to show day.

Kawerau Christmas in the Park is on Saturday, December 14. It kicks off at 11am with the New World Kawerau Santa parade, starting (and finishing) at the Ron Hardie Recreation Centre. A prize giving will be held on stage at Prideaux Park at 12.15pm.

The Radio 1XX Community Christmas Concert will display the best local talent from 12.30pm, with the evening variety show running from 7.15-10pm, concluding with the fireworks.

Kawerau Christmas in the Park is the Eastern Bay of Plenty’s showcase festive entertainment event and organisers encourage locals and visitors to come along. The event is family-friendly – drugs, alcohol and gang regalia are not permitted. Prideaux Park is a smoke-free venue.
