Media Release - Ramona retirees after 31 years

Council thanks Ramona Woods for 31 years' service

AFTER more than three decades of library service, Ramona Wood is retiring from the Kawerau District Library today, on Friday 27 August.

Ramona first worked for the Library April 1978–June 1979 (14 months) under the District Librarian Flora Dow. She did such a good job that Flora hired her in September 1991 to work permanently as a part-time library assistant. Back then it was late night Thursdays but in the late 1990s, it changed to Saturday mornings and Ramona has been a regular on the roster ever since.

Kawerau District Library and Museum Manager Susan Harris says “Mona is going to be missed for her fun outgoing personality and she is very popular with young and old alike."

"Mona is always the first to get involved with our programming whether its story telling with the kids or running the bar at Pecha Kucha. When Ramona started, it was card catalogues and no computers, and now digital services and helping the public with their queries is where the role evolved to."

Kawerau District Council thanks Ramona for her 31 years of service to the Kawerau community and wish her and husband Rex all the best for the next part of their journey.

With the COVID-19 Level 4 lockdown, it means Council is not able to farewell Ramona as we wished to, but we know she is happy looking forward to spending more time with whānau once lockdowns are over.
