COVID-19 Level 3 services in the Kawerau District

KAWERAU District Council wishes to advise the public that the Transfer Station will reopen at COVID-19 Level 3.
However, they wish to advise that as per the government’s COVID-19 restrictions, customers must wear a face covering (or mask) and complete contact tracing.
“We wish to ensure that customers are not offended by our staff asking that customers either scan the Transfer Station QR code or provide contact details. This is our obligation to open at COVID-19 Level 3,” Kawerau District Council communication and engagement manager Tania Humberstone said.
“We know this is an important service and we appreciate the support of residents to keep everyone safe – both our staff and members of the community.”
The Transfer Station will reopen at its usual hours from 12 noon until 4.00pm daily and the usual charges will apply.
But, there are other important differences:
•    Customers must pay by eftpos or debit card. NO cash will be accepted.
•    Customers MUST wear a face covering or mask as per the government’s COVID-19 restrictions. Please ensure you do wear a mask, and that you stick to social distancing and hygiene practices.
•    NO recycling services will be available at the Transfer Station. All recycling will go to general waste (as there are no recycling plants open in New Zealand).
•    Contact tracing will be carried out as per the COVID-19 guidelines. Please do not be offended our staff will ask for your details, if you do not have the Contact Tracing App.
The Council Offices and all other facilities remain closed at Level 3 but staff are available via phone, email and the online services.
Our Parks and Reserves team will also resume essential maintenance of the district. Council asks that members of the public respect the COVID-19 social distancing practices with our staff.
