Long Term Plans and Annual Plans

Mahere Tau Tekau | Long Term Plans

Every three years Council is required to complete a plan for the next 10 years.

The Long Term Plan sets our direction as a council and establishes the work we will deliver to the community, as well as setting out how that work will be funded, which is how Council sets the rates, fees and charges each year. (Note: The Mahere Iwa Tau | Long Term Plan 2025-2034 plan is a nine-year plan as Council opted for a transitional Annual Plan in 2024-2025 due to the uncertainties of Local Water Done Well legislation.)

Long Term Plan’s outline everything Council does and how services and projects will be funded for the 10 year period.

It also details Council's vision and community outcomes, and explains how Council will achieve them.

The Council adopted the Mahere Iwa Tau | Long Term Plan 2025 - 2034 on 25 June 2025.

Mahere ā Tau | Annual Plans

Where the Council is proposing a significant or material change from what was planned through the Mahere Tau Tekau | Long Term Plan, the Council will consult on the changes before the Mahere ā Tau | Annual Plan is adopted.

Annual plans are usually produced in the years between the Long Term Plans, giving Council an opportunity to review and revise rates, budgets, projects and goals from those originally proposed in the Long Term Plan.

Previous Mahere ā Tau | Annual Plans

In the lead-up to the adoption of the Mahere ā Tau | Annual Plan each year, the Council consults with its community and stakeholders via a Mahere ā Tau | Annual Plan Consultation Document. Members of the public, organisations, businesses and groups are encouraged to participate in the annual planning process by making a submission to the Draft Mahere ā Tau | Annual Plan.  These submissions are taken into account at hearings where submitters have the opportunity to speak to the elected members. Submitters who do not wish to speak to their submission still have their submission taken into account at the deliberations which follow  the hearings.
