Nominations are now open for the 2025 Kawerau Young Achievers Awards
ELIGIBILITY: A Kawerau district young person up to and including secondary school level, who has, during the year 15th July 2024 – 4th September 2025 as an individual or member of a team:
GOLD AWARD:
(i) Top 3 placing in a New Zealand and/or North Island in a sport, cultural (This includes National Kapahaka or National Manu Kōrero - speech competition) or academic event
(ii) Attained a National award in respect of youth service, cultural event or training group.
SILVER AWARD:
(i) 1st placing in a Bay of Plenty, or Waikato Region in a sport, cultural (This includes Regional Kapahaka or Regional Manu Kōrero speech competition) or academic event.
(ii) Attained a Regional award in respect of youth service or training group.
(iii) Been selected to represent New Zealand and/or North Island in a sport, cultural (This includes National Kapahaka or National Manu Kōrero - speech competition) or academic event
BRONZE AWARD:
(i) 1st placing in the Eastern Bay of Plenty in a sport, cultural (This includes Regional Kapahaka or Regional Manu Kōrero speech competition) or academic event.
(ii) 2nd or 3rd placing in a Bay of Plenty or Waikato Region event.
*If it is considered that an individual or team has achieved under extraordinary circumstances, a nomination may be submitted and be considered by the Sub-committee and a cultural advisor at its discretion.

The above video showcases the inaugural Kawerau Young Achievers Awards 'Virtual Ceremony' released on 12 November 2021. This year we were proud to acknowledge and celebrate 115 youth. Congratulations to all our Kawerau Young Achievers who have excelled in academic, sporting and cultural endeavours who were acknowledged in this unique award ceremony. Special thanks to Kawerau Youth Councillors and MCs Matariki Turuwhenua and Munro Elliott-Brooking. Ngā mihi nui to our local kaumatua Koro Te Haukakawa (Boycie) Te Rire for the karakia (blessing).
