Mayor and Councillor profiles

Our council comprises a mayor and eight councillors. It is the governing body of the Kawerau district. Following consultation with the community, and the three-step representation review process, council introduced a new basis for election in 2024. The Kawerau District Council is represented by the Mayor, two District-Wide (At Large) Councillors, three Kawerau General Ward Councillors and three Māori Ward Councillors.

Please note: Following the Local Elections 2025 - there have been changes to the Kawerau District Council. These will be updated shortly, following the inauguration of all the Councillors, and the upcoming announcement of the Deputy Mayor and Committee Structures for the 2025 to 2028 triennium.
