The government’s Three Waters Reform proposes that the water assets currently managed by Kawerau District Council and the other 66 councils throughout New Zealand will be owned and operated by four large entities. 
Launched in July 2020 the government proposes changing the Three Waters service delivery arrangements by 1 July 2024.

Council stands by commitment to consult about Three Waters Reform 

Kawerau District Council is working through the challenges of the Government’s Three Waters Reform.

At a workshop earlier this week, Council agreed that the first priority is to confirm whether the community will be better off or worse off if the District’s Three Waters assets and ownership are transferred to one of the four entities being proposed under the reform.

‘Local jobs for locals’ through Mayors Taskforce for Jobs 

KAWERAU Mayor Malcolm Campbell is pleased to announce a funding package to create jobs for locals in the district. 
The $500,000 package is a partnership between the Mayors’ Taskforce for Jobs and government to get more people into local jobs. 
Mayor Campbell said, “The first step is to employ a coordinator for the programme.”

Tasman Paper Public Celebration

Past and present employees and Public are invited to join in celebrating Tasman paper being part of the Kawerau community for the last 68 years.
Norske Skog Tasman will be hosting an event open to the public on Saturday 17 July 2021 in the Kawerau Town Hall from 12pm to 6pm. 
Photos and videos from the Sir James Fletcher Kawerau Museum and Tasman Mill library will be on display featuring the life of the paper mill and its people from construction to closure.

Kawerau District Council thanks submitters

KAWERAU DISTRICT Council received a total of 80 submissions to the proposed Long Term Plan for 2021-2031. 

Twenty submitters have indicated they will present their submissions to the Mayor and Councillors at the Hearing.

The Council will hold the Hearing on Tuesday, 22 June, where submitters who wish to will talk to their submissions. 

The Hearing is a public meeting and will be live-streamed from 9am when it starts.
