Kawerau wishes neighbours well 

ON behalf of the Kawerau District Council, Kawerau Mayor Faylene Tunui acknowledges our neighbours' preparedness in Whakatāne and Ōpōtiki overnight.  

"We wish to send our sincere regards to everyone in our neighbouring regions and others throughout Aotearoa who felt the force of Cyclone Gabrielle last night. We wish them well in the clean-up effort."

Manatū Hauora (Ministry of Health) directs Kawerau to fluoridate drinking water

KAWERAU District Council confirms it has received a Manatū Hauora (Ministry of Health) directive to fluoridate the drinking water supply.

On Wednesday July 27, Council received a formal letter from the Director General of Health Dr Ashley Bloomfield instructing that fluoridation of the district’ would be required from 31 January 2023.

Council Mānawatia a Matariki

Kawerau District Council will host a number of community-based events to celebrate Matariki 2022.

Kawerau District Council adopts vaccine pass requirements  

Following an extra-ordinary Council Meeting held on Friday, 28 January 2022 via zoom, the Kawerau District Council has adopted vaccine pass requirements for all indoor venues. The implementation date and any additional staffing requirements are now being worked through. Council will make a further update following a meeting on Tuesday, 1 February 2022.
