Tēnā koutou katoa - Greetings to all.
I am Faylene Tunui, Kawerau is home and I am standing to serve as your Mayor.
I have served on Council for 9 years, with 6 years as deputy mayor and have served Ngāti Tūwharetoa (BOP) Settlement Trust for 5 years as trustee. I have skills in finance, central government investment, service provider delivery, whanau ora and partnerships with government, employers and communities to lift employment for all.
With the closure of our inception Tasman Mill, nature's reset through Covid-19 and the many government changes, we need experienced change leadership to navigate through these changes and return to basics - having somewhere to live, somewhere to work and something to hope for, to better find someone to love.
I am a mum, wife, daughter, sister and friend and seek your vote to continue listening, learning and leading, loyal to the people and place of Kawerau.

Councillor - Eight Required

Kia ora koutou. My name is Rowena Brooking, better known as Rowy. I am born and bred in Kawerau.
I worked at Tarawera High school for seven years in the Specialist Learning centre. I saw a need three years ago to establish Te Koha, a Life Skills programme for young adults with disabilities, because there was nothing available in the community at that time.
Two years later through communicating on Facebook I realised whānau were struggling financially. The desire in my heart is to help, so I created Koha ki Kawerau, a not-for-profit organisation that provides for those in need.
My ability to find solutions for a need is in my nature and a skill I will use to continue making change for the betterment of Kawerau.

As a third term councillor, please accept my gratitude to those who have supported me this far.
I have four generations of family living in Kawerau. This gives me a living, loving stake in continuing the positive developments in our town.
The retirement of our current long standing mayor, industry challenges and central government legislative change to local government responsibilities, creates uncertainty.
Consistency and experience will be key at the council table. Having worked three decades in Kawerau health, social, education and sport sectors, I have constant contact with a range of community. I believe myself well placed to have an understanding of our shared aspirations for more positive progress, and knowledge proficiency to enact them.
Accord me the privilege of your support, I look forward to the new page of the Kawerau story.

The challenges of the 21st century have hit us hard. Now more than ever the role that local politicians play in the everyday lives of their respective communities, needs reinvigorating.
Sticking with the status quo of "doing business as usual" is no longer good enough. If elected my approach to democracy will be open, transparent and inclusive. Information sharing will be a priority and I will work hard to develop a strategy designed to innovate civic engagement and improve civic education within our district. An informed community is an empowered community and it's time we realize our potential. I have the energy and determination to provide effective leadership and I will advocate hard to secure certainty for Kawerau's future. Your vote for me will NOT be wasted. Together we can enhance the prosperity of our community and work to raise the living standards of all. It's our time!

My analytical strengths come from a background in financial services.
My network is the result of years of involvement with local businesses, schools, Māori and sporting organisations.
The three C's are important to me Courage, Commitment, Community and to serve all manner of people.

My family arrived in Kawerau in April 1955. I was able to grow up with the town developing and experience the friendship and special spirit of Kawerau which has continued to grow. As the town was planned we have been able to enjoy many facilities and with peoples' willingness to help out and get in behind developments added to our District. I returned permanently in 1994 and have watched the changes taking place but still retaining its special character. I have worked with our Youth Council and in other areas. It is important that everyone is able to enjoy all our facilities by maintaining high standards of maintenance and those new projects meeting the future needs of our District especially the re-building of the Netball Pavilion. As a long serving Councillor I bring knowledge to evaluate the changes ahead and make them work the best for our District.

It has been an honour and a privilege to have served my first term as a Councillor for the Kawerau District Council and for the people of Kawerau. I have maintained that if elected, I would listen, learn and come to the appropriate decision for the benefit of Kawerau.
There are many upcoming issues facing our council and our community. I have lived in Kawerau since 1955. We came here at the start of the sawmills, Timber yards and Paper Mills. I have worked in all the above before taking on an adult apprenticeship in motor mechanics. Through times of earth quakes, share market crash's, losing a brother in No 2-paper machine, having another brother suffer poliomyelitis, closure of business and the above mills on those hard times. I along with people of Kawerau helped one another and say there is nothing better than being brought up and schooled in Kawerau. We have good young stock in our youth of Kawerau, and look forward to serving them and the people. Building new houses encourage business and bring Kawerau up with the best. I look forward to working with our good team in council. I welcome anyone to come and talk to me about anything. I am Kawerau through and through.

Tēnā koutou katoa. My name is Vivienne Wilson, and I am seeking election as one of your eight Kawerau District Councillors.
My decision to stand for election is supported by the need to ensure we know what our rates are being spent on and to improve how Council communicates with Kawerau residents and ratepayers.
Before coming home to the Eastern Bay of Plenty, I worked in the legacy Manukau City Council in community development, followed by transitioning to Auckland Council specialising in relationship management. So I have experience working in local government and on governance boards.

If successful, I look forward to hearing your kōrero, voicing your concerns and keeping you informed. Together let's take care of our beautiful paradise, Kawerau.
