Christmas in the Park 2025 event timeline:

10am Christmas parade floats meet at Ron Hardie Recreation Centre

11am New World Kawerau Santa Parade starts, and completes one lap of town before ending behind the Rec Centre

12:15pm Prizegiving (on stage at Prideaux Park)

12:30pm – 5pm Radio 1XX Community Christmas Concert

6pm* –10pm Evening variety show and fireworks (if permitted)

When and where is the event happening?

The event will be held at Prideaux Park, Kawerau on Saturday 6th December 2025. Gates open at 10:30am with the Community Parade kicking off first at 11am. 

How much does it cost to attend?

It’s completely FREE! Kawerau Christmas in the Park is a community event for everyone to enjoy.

Who runs the event?

The event is proudly organised by Kawerau District Council with the support from Kawerau New World with the Santa Parade. We wouldn’t be able to do this also without the support of our amazing funders and local businesses for their contribution to the event. 

 Entertainment and Activities

Who’s performing this year?

We’ve got a great lineup of local talent, youth performers, and amazing headline artists. Stay tuned to our Kawerau District Council Facebook page for the full lineup release on the 1st of December!

Will there be games or activities for kids?

Absolutely! There’ll be plenty of fun activities for tamariki - from amusement games to live entertainment and the man himself - SANTA! 

Will Santa be there?

Of course! Santa will be making a special appearance later in the evening and within our morning Santa Parade - don’t forget your camera!

 Food, Stalls and Vendors

Will there be food available?

Yes! We’ll have a range of kai and treat stalls offering something for everyone - from BBQ to ice cream and everything in between. We pride ourselves also by providing local community stalls to provide their ability to fundraise for their local community group - we hope you can support them.

Can I bring my own food or drinks?

You’re welcome to bring your own picnic-style food, but please note: no alcohol, drugs, glass bottles, or BBQs are allowed for safety reasons.

Are there stalls for local businesses or groups?

Yes! Local businesses and community groups can apply to host a stall. Contact the Kawerau isite for more information. 

 Safety & Facilities

Is the event alcohol-free?

Yes - this is a family-friendly, alcohol-free, and smoke-free event. 

What should I bring?

Bring a picnic blanket or camping chairs, sunscreen, water, and be ready for a good dance!

Is there parking available?

Yes, parking will be available within the town centre. Please follow signage and instructions from our event team. Please also be mindful of your surroundings as we have many tamariki who attend. Be safe and request for help if you need. 

What happens if it rains?

The event will go ahead rain or shine, but if weather conditions are unsafe, updates will be posted on the Kawerau District Council Facebook page. 

Is there a Kaumātua Zone?

Absolutely! We’re proud to provide a dedicated area especially for our Kaumātua and Disability Community. You’ll find the white marquee located on the opposite side of the field, near the amusements and close to the stage. Our friendly team will be there to assist - this space is reserved exclusively for Kaumātua and those with disabilities. 

To make access easier, staff will be stationed at both main entry points with golf carts available to transport Kaumātua to the marquee. Simply request a lift on arrival, and our team will be happy to help.

Is there disability parking?

Yes! Disability parking is available - please enter through the gate opposite New World and show your mobility card to security upon arrival.

What can I bring into the event? 

Bring suitable clothing and footwear for all weather, as the event will go ahead rain or shine. Bring a reusable water bottle (empty or sealed) - a free water station will be available onsite - along with some snacks and a great attitude! Keep the vibes high, enjoy the atmosphere, and look out for your mates.

Can I perform, volunteer, or get involved?

Definitely! We’re always keen to involve local performers, groups, and volunteers. Email infocentre@kaweraudc.govt.nz to register your interest. We will try our best to make it work.
