Kokako Reserve

Manawahe Kokako Trust

The Manawahe Kokako Trust operates on private land under the Queen Elizabeth II Trust and is now New Zealand's fourth largest Kokako Colony. Through intensive pest control and monitoring, the Trust has increased the Kokako population from 9 to over 50. Other birds are also thriving.

This committed group is always looking for volunteers to help cut tracks and lay poison over a 350 hectare area. There are six to seven working bees per breeding season and volunteers need to be fit, committed and early risers. The working bees are held on Saturday mornings from August to February starting at 7 am finishing with a BBQ and debriefing at 12 pm.
