Information Centre

The Kawerau Information Centre is located centrally in the Bus Terminal on Plunket Street (turn right at the BP station when coming into town). It is operated by Manager Kataraina Tuhoro along with her Customer Services Officers, Kimiwai Karekare and Rerehau Gordine, in association with R&M Holdings Ltd.

You will be welcomed by their warm inviting smiles. They will endeavour to answer your queries on travel, bookings, activities and services in and around Kawerau.

It is open daily from 8.00 am to 4.00 pm, seven days per week from Monday to Sunday, except for Christmas Day. However, these hours are subject to change during the winter months.

Forestry permits, general information about New Zealand, as well as information on local attractions and accommodation are available from the Information Centre.

Travel

As Agents for Intercity Coachlines, the Naked Bus, and Interisland Ferries, we are able to assist you with your travel arrangements in and around New Zealand. Daily bus arrival times in Kawerau are:

What's On in Kawerau

On Wednesday morning and afternoon, we broadcast live on Radio 1XX in Whakatane about community notices and any upcoming events to be held in Kawerau. If you have a notice you would like us to broadcast, please feel free to ring us or drop your notice into the Information Centre.

Tarawera Falls / Outlet

Forestry permits are required to gain access into the Tarawera Falls and Outlet, at a cost of $4.00 per vehicle. You will be provided with a permit, a map and directions in and out of the forest.

The DOC Camp is situated at the Tarawera Outlet and the cost to stay is $7.00 per adult per night, children 5-17 years old $2.00, under 5's are free. This quiet, back to nature retreat is a must-see for all families who want to get away from the hustle and bustle of a busy life, especially during the hot summer months and the holiday periods.
