Kawerau District Plan

The review of the Kawerau District Plan is now complete with Council making the plan operative on 1 May 2012.

The District Plan controls building development and other land use activities and subdivisions. If you intend to undertake building work or land use activities or subdivision, the District Plan contains rules on things like height, site coverage, yard separations, noise limits, parking, signs, heritage, lot sizes etc that may affect your proposal. In some cases you may need to obtain a resource consent before you proceed.

The Operative District Plan can be viewed by downloading files situated below or inspecting a hard copy at either the Council's offices or the library.

Proposed Change Number One - Putauaki Industrial Zone

Kawerau District Council proposes to rezone an area of approximately 171 hectares of land located to the north east of the township of Kawerau. The purpose of the Plan Change is twofold; firstly it is to provide additional industrial land to address a shortage of industrial land supply in the kawerau area, and secondly it is a statutory requirement as a consequence of a recent boundary alteration between Kawerau District Council and Whakatane District Coiuncil.

Proposed Change Number One to the Operative Kawerau District Plan was publicly notified on 9 May 2012. Council is now calling for submissions with the final date for lodging a submission being 4.00 pm Wednesday, 20 June 2012.

Proposed Change Number Two - Commercial Zone Correction

Kawerau District Council proposes to rezone two sites from Reserve zone to Commercial zone to correct the zoning back to the intended and original zone. This follows the identification of a mapping error which occurred during the recently concluded District Plan review process.

Proposed Change Number Two to the Operative Kawerau District Plan was publicly notified on 9 May 2012. Council is now calling for submissions with the final date for lodging a submission being 4.00 pm Wednesday, 20 June 2012.
