Kawerau Big 3

The Kawerau Big 3 is a family event. It consists of a:

Competition for serious hunters
Competition for children (15 yrs and under)
Family/Whanau Day.

The Kawerau Big 3 is a land based fishing and hunting event.

The weekend starts at 5.00 pm on Friday 14 August at the Kawerau Sports Club at Firmin Field, Waterhouse Street, Kawerau where competitors and their support teams can attend a get together to meet and greet.

Friday is also the day the children's Eel Competition starts.

Saturday is definitely the day for the family/whanau. At Firmin Field games and challenges will be set up for children of all ages.

Sunday the tension will be on the competitors with weigh in until 2.00 pm. Prizegiving will commence as soon as possible after the weigh in.

Children are an important part of the weekend event and 93 entered the eeling competition with 40 weighing in. All this despite the terrible weather. The Whanau Day was postponed until Sunday and was great fun for both the children and their families.

The event was a huge success with 35 teams and 71 individuals individuals entering the competition with more then 400 people attending the weigh in and prize giving held on Sunday afternoon.

The Kawerau Outdoor Recreation Club Inc. has confirmed its commitment to making the Kawerau Big 3 an annual event and have set the weekend of 20th, 21st, and 22nd August 2010 as our next competition. Where we look forward to seeing you all there.
