Kawerau Woodfest 2009 and the
National Woodskills Competition.

Planning is now underway for 2010.   With the National Woodskills Championship as its cornerstone, Woodfest is expanding to encompass a wide variety of elements associated with the wood industry and the bush at large. Click Background  for further information on the history of the festival.

In 2008 the Festival attracted over 10,000 visitors from around the country and in excess of 130 entries competed in the Championship for a total prize pool of over $28,000.   To view photographs on the winning entry in each category click 2008 Category Winners Click to Download Reader.    2007 Category Winners show the top artists of the 2007 National Woodskills Competition.  

A new category has been added in 2009 which will stretch the imagination of both artists and the viewing public.

"Off the Wall"

Anything goes in this category - ranging from the practical to the bizarre, this category will be judged by popular public vote.   Made predominantly from wood or wood products, the entry can be painted to enhance or left au naturel.

Two new competitions have been introduced to the 2009 Festival.   "The Big Dig" is a chip shovelling competition for teams of three.   The quickest team to shovel 3 cubic metres of wood chip will win the $1,200 prize money.   For further information and an entry form click The Big Dig Click to Download Reader.
