Erica's Excited

about Angel Cats: When Feline Friends Touch Hearts And Change Lives by Allen & Linda Anderson. This book was an amazing read. For those of you who are cat lovers (as I am) then you will enjoy this book because it shows how cats have a super sense and know just where and when to be where they are needed the most (and usually they arrive just in time). It tells about how cats are great comforters in times of need. They give unconditional love and acceptance. When this book finished I was disappointed because I could have kept reading for hours more. It was that good! Located in Non-Fiction (636.8).

Susan Selects

Buckinbah Weir by local author Wayne Brooking for a classic Kiwi read. A weir on a forest creek has been the scene of a series of murders that stretch back to the early 1900’s. Investigators have never figured out what is happening and while locals have their opinions, deaths keep continuing. An Australian journalist and her Aboriginal photographer decide to investigate and discover there is more than can be explained by the rational world. What I loved about this story was the connection with characters and rural NZ. If a young Barry Crump had ever written a mystery story, this could have been it. Located in Fiction (Bro).

Veerle Values

Visions Of Nature: New Zealand’s Wild In The West by Trevor Penfold. Penfold is a wildlife and nature photographer who has produced a stunning photo book, inspired by the wildlife of Raglan (the ‘west’ in the title), his home base. He shows the amazing variety in the beautiful, weird and ugly found around Raglan. What is particularly interesting is Penfold sharing with the reader the ‘secrets’ of his photography and some tricks of the trade (mainly patience!). His comments draw your attention to details you would otherwise miss. The photos are absolutely stunning and make New Zealand wildlife looking spectacularly beautiful. For the die-hards, technical information about each photo is included at the back. Located in Non-fiction (508.9333).
