Joining The Library
Membership of the Library is free for anyone who resides within the Kawerau District Council boundaries or is a ratepayer of the Kawerau District Council. To join, you must enrol at the Kawerau District Library by filling out a borrower application. Three items per family may be borrowed at that time and your borrower's card will then be posted out to you. When joining, you must show personal identification. Ratepayers residing outside Kawerau District Council boundaries must also show a ratepayer's notice. Giving false information may lead to your borrower's application being declined or cancelled.
Acceptable Identification
- Current New Zealand Driver's Licence
- Current Passport
- Current Government ID
- Student ID
- Current Credit or Bank Card (must have name details)
Conditions Of Membership
In signing your borrower application, you agree to:
- Produce your Library card when using Library services and accept responsibility for its use.
- Return all items borrowed by the due date.
- Pay for overdue, damaged or lost item/s and any debt collection fees.
- Advise the Library of any change of address.
- Immediately contact the Library if your card is lost or stolen. You are responsible for item/s borrowed before the loss was reported.
- Acknowledge the same responsibility for any child you have registered.
Borrower Categories
Adult
Membership is free for adults aged 18 and over, residing or paying rates within the Kawerau District Council boundaries.
Youth
Membership is free for youth aged 0-17 residing within the Kawerau District Council boundaries. A parent or legal guardian must sign the borrower application form accepting responsibility for the Library card.
Non-Resident
People who reside outside the Kawerau District Council boundaries and are not ratepayers of the Kawerau District Council must pay an annual fee of $25.00 for membership.
Educational Institution Borrowing
Membership is free for educational institutions resident within the Kawerau District Council boundaries. A letter of authorisation from the Principal of the educational institution accepting responsibility for use and debts must accompany borrower applications. The membership is for school use only and must be renewed annually.
Business Borrowing
Membership is free for businesses, resident within the Kawerau District Council boundaries. A Kawerau District Council rates notice and a letter of authorisation from the Principal of the business accepting responsibility for use and debts must accompany borrower applications. The membership is for business use only and must be renewed annually.
Services And Charges
Issues And Renewals
- Items are issued for three weeks except video/DVDs (1 week).
- Items may be renewed once by telephone or in-house using your Library membership card number. Items are unable to be renewed if requests have been made on them.
- There are no charges to issue or renew items.
Requests And Reserves
- If an item that is held by the Kawerau Library is not available (i.e it is on loan), you can reserve the item at a charge of 50c per item payable at the time of request.
- Items not held by the Kawerau Library can be requested from other Libraries through the electronic Interloan system. There is a charge of $1.50 per item payable at the time of request.
Fines And Fees
- Overdue books are charged 10c per item per day.
- Overdue videos/DVDs are charged $1.00 per item per day.
- Overdue invoiced items recieve an admin fee of $5.00 per item.
- Replacement cards cost $2.00. You must show I.D. to obtain a replacement card.
- Out Of District Membership Fee $25.00 per annum.
- Printing 20c per single side page.
