New Zealand's Biggest Story Time
Wednesday 20th August 2008 at 10.30am
Library Week’s ever popular read-aloud event is back again and libraries all across the country will be reading Piggity-Wiggity Jiggity Jig by New Zealand author Diana Neild. Piggity-Wiggity is a wonderful read-aloud rhyme and rhythm story that trips off the tongue with fun language and sophisticated vocabulary and charming illustrations by Philip Webb.
When Piggity-Wiggity Jiggity Jig complains to his dad about the length of his name his Dad explains that he and his wife felt that their large family of four boys and four girls was missing something. When Piggity-Wiggity came along, they were so delighted that they wanted to give him an extra-special, musical, heroic sort of name. Piggity-Wiggity goes to sleep well satisfied with the explanation for his extraordinary name.
Come along and take part of New Zealand's biggest storytime read by Emma and finish with a quick craft.

School Holiday Fun
The Library runs free activity sessions in the holiday periods through the school year. The next school holiday sessions will be at the end of September 2008. Sessions are held in the Children's area of the Library and run approximately for a hour. An adult caregiver must accompany the child/ren. For the summer vacation, the Library runs a summer reading programme (see next section below). Kawerau District Council also runs a separate School Holiday Programme over this time.

Summer Reading (StoryClub)
StoryClub is a summer reading programme for children aged 5-11 years which promotes books and reading with crafts, activities and fun finales. Registrations for this Summer's programme began at the start of December and your school age child needs to come to the library with a library card where they will receive their starter pack and first activity sheet. The emphasis of this programme is on reading with the children reporting back to library staff on the books they have read. Last year's theme was Rocket Into Reading.
