Dive Into Books: The Summer Reading Challenge
We had a fantastic summer with the Dive Into Books Reading Challenge and say well done to all our competition winners and children who completed their challenge booklets. We had great fun playing preschool pirates, making a commotion in the ocean and hunting for treasure. Tommy Kapai Wilson was also a great way to finish the school holidays. Once again, thanks for participating and making it a great challenge. Also special thanks to Ross and Janet Miller who donated our book prizes.

School Holiday Fun
The Library runs free activity sessions at the Library in the holiday periods through the school year, including the summer vacation. Sessions are held in the Children's area of the Library and run approximately for 30 minutes to an hour. An adult caregiver must accompany the child/ren. For the summer vacation, the Library runs a summer reading programme (see next section below). Kawerau District Council also runs a separate School Holiday Programme over this time (contact Hannah Edwardson 07 306 9048 for further information).

The Summer Reading Challenge
The summer reading challenge is a programme for children aged 5-10 years which promotes books and reading with crafts, activities and rewards. Registrations for this Summer's programme begin December 2010 and your school age child needs to come to the library with a library card where they will receive their starter pack and challenge booklet. The theme for last year's programme was Dive Into Reading.
