Retirement
For people nearing retirement and looking to move to a smaller town, Kawerau offers some very attractive lifestyle options.
Here you'll find that many of life's necessities are more affordable and easier to access than in many larger centres, the people friendlier and more outgoing.
One of the biggest attractions for retirees is the low cost of housing. Good quality, 3 bedroom family homes with a garage are available for less than $250,000 - about the price of a section in some other parts of the country.
The town's location is another very big bonus. Rotorua is less than one hour away and it is approximately 30 minutes drive to Whakatane and the coastal beaches. Whatever your interests, in Kawerau they're sure to be well catered for.
Newcomers are always welcomed by recreational and social groups and for those who like the outdoors lifestyle there is so much to do.
There are the lakes nearby (Tarawera and Rotoma are the closest), the spectacular Tarawera Falls, plenty of forest walks, excellent lake, river and deep-sea fishing, a bowling club, golf course, tennis club, free access to a heated swimming pool - the choices are endless.
