The Mighty River Power Info tent & Woodfest Volunteers
This year the organisers would like to acknowledge the extremely valuable contribution which has been made by Mighty River Power. A sponsorship package has been made available to assist with the promotion and acknowledgement of the volunteers at Woodfest.
Kawerau Woodfest & The National Woodskills Competition takes months of planning and endless hours of time given by a dedicated group of volunteers, who are passionate about bringing a great event to the region. The National Woodskills Trust begin planning for the following year immediately after a Woodfest has finished and it doesn’t stop there with hours of administration involved during the year to bring everything together for the Woodfest weekend.
There is a dedicated group of volunteers who are visible during the weekend as well as the volunteers involved in the planning. Without all of these people Kawerau Woodfest simply wouldn’t happen.
Kawerau District Council’s Events Co-ordinator, Lee Barton is presently implementing the new Events Management Strategy and one of the key areas in the strategy is the promotion of volunteering at events. Mr Barton said “A community is made stronger and more positive when people volunteer their time; it also gives the volunteer a sense of pride and part in their community”. The sponsorship package between Kawerau District Council and Mighty River Power is a step in the direction of thanking and acknowledging those who give their time in a voluntary capacity at Woodfest, with free T-shirts, caps and food provided to the Woodfest volunteers.
One of the initiatives this year is the Mighty River Power Info tent, all manned by local volunteers who are happy to offer free information about this years Woodfest. You can find the Info tent next to the axe man statue near Prideaux Park and look for the INFO ladies in orange who can show you maps and details about when attractions are happening over the weekend.
Here’s a massive THANKYOU Mighty River Power and to all the Kawerau Woodfest & National Woodskills Competition Volunteers.
