Womens Only Tri

More than 100 Women took part in the inaugural Pathway 2 Health Women’s Only Triathlon, which was held at the Maurie Kjar Swimming Complex on Wednesday 25 March 2009. The pool complex resembled a colourful, frenzied mix of women of all ages, sizes and fitness abilities. This event targets women that want to get active in a supportive, encouraging and safe environment.

Race Director Ron Price remarked the pool swim as being “organised chaos” this showed on the face’s of the women with huge smiles and lots of laughter amid the splashes. Course marshalls were provided from Warwick Godfery’s Te Waananga O Aotearoa Sports group, this was critical to the success and good feel factor in the community around the cycle and run course. A large contingent of family and friends encouraged and supported their wives, partners, aunts and nan’s as they cycled, ran and walked to complete the 10km cycle and 2.5km run.

The design of this type of triatlon made it appealing to a broad range of women and now the blokes, who don’t want to be left out, have asked to have one of their own.
