Active Communities Project
This project has been developed by Sport Bay of Plenty and is based on learning's from the Pathway 2 Health project, local and recent research and knowledge of the Sports and Recreation sector of the Eastern Bay of Plenty.
Whanau is the key target group for this project. The benefits of focussing on the family structure, direct or extended, are multiple and include many intergenerational activities and programmes which provide the opportunity for people of all ages and ability to participate in sports that they may otherwise not have had access to. The aim of the project is to increase and improve participation in sport by not only providing whanau exposure to positive and sporting experiences but by supporting existing sporting clubs and organisations.
The duration of the project is three years with activites with a focus on Swimming, Basketball, Kayaking and Touch Rugby in the first year.
